Here’s some ‘flytipping’ near me – illegal dumping of trash. This happened yesterday sometime in the evening near my home. Like many such examples round my way, it’s sort of ‘handyman’ rubbish. Small jobbing builders or carpenters dumping the leftovers of their work.
I’m not sure if they’re charged extra for being commercial – and hence this keeps them off the straight and narrow in terms of waste disposal. Or if they just can’t be bothered to take their leavings to the ‘civic amenity site’ – aka dump.
My son was very upset about this. He kept pointing to it and saying “Bad man dropped it. Man run away.” when we went out for a late evening trike ride.
I don’t think he witnessed the flytipping incident. I certainly didn’t. But I promised to report it just to shut him up. My council’s street cleaning are either eagle eyed on their tours of the borough or responsive to citizen reports. It wasn’t there early this morning.
I do have a few observations about the process of reporting flytipping via an online form.
1. It was pretty easy to find – google Wandsworth flytipping and I was in straight away.
2. it was a heck of a lotta clicking once I got in and the mapping report function felt a bit clunky, the photo uploading interface didn’t seem right (I didn’t bother) -and many, many, many screens later I hit the submit button. I wonder how many user abandon mid-process.
But anyway the trash is gone.
I wish it was a bit
